South African tennis player Kevin Anderson was up two sets to love at the start of his match against World Number 1 Novak Djokovic on Monday 6 July 2015, and that much closer to realising his Wimbledon dream.

The South African, ranked 14 (from 17) after his brilliant performance at Queens last week when he made it to the finals (and lost out to Andy Murray), was leading 7-6, 7-6 before Djokovic fought back to take the next two sets 6-1, 6-4.

Due to lack of light, play has now been suspended until tomorrow when we’ll find out which player goes through to the quarter finals at Wimbledon.

According to Twitter reports, Djokovic had not been two sets to love down for ten years.

The BBC are describing Kevin as being “the size of a giraffe but runs like a gazelle”.

No matter what Tennis South Africa may say, surely anyone can see that right now Kevin Anderson is flying the flag high for South Africa and making his country SO proud! And surely we can understand that while the Davis Cup is fantastic, he has a point when he says that “as a tennis player, my South African pride is most proudly on display when I achieve success on an international scene, much like I did last week at the Aegon Championships [at Queens] in London.

“Nothing made me more proud than hearing my name as a representative of our great South African nation announced in front of a packed stadium full of enthusiastic fans.”

Kevin said in a blog post, published on SAPeople a few days ago, that “I will be flying our flag proudly next to my name at Wimbledon this week, and my greatest hope is that the people of South Africa will continue to support me as I continue to represent our spectacular country.” (Read the full Kevin Anderson blog post here.)

Golf star Ernie Els tweeted a message of support to Kevin saying “Good luck with 2nd week @Wimbledon. Making all RSA proud! TSA should get their house in order!!” to which Kevin replied “Thanks for the support! Hopefully one day we can get out onto the court, I’ve heard a lot about your tennis skills!”
