Rosenblatt Recitals are London’s only world-class concert season of opera and song and on Tuesday 28th June 2011 the series will welcome South African bass baritone Vuyani Mlinde who received outstanding reviews in the international press in the last few years.
On this occasion he will perform songs and arias by composers including Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Respighi, Tosti and Gastaldon.
Vuyani Mlinde began his training with Wilhelm Theunissen at the Free State Musicon, South Africa. He won an eight month scholarship on the Opera Queensland Young Artists’ Programme, a full scholarship for 2004/2005 at the Royal College of Music, and a full scholarship for the Benjamin Britten International Opera School, RCM, from 2006. He was the 2007 recipient of the coveted Clonter Opera Prize, and finalist in the prestigious Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition in Germany.
Vuyani Mlinde studied at the Royal College of Music and as a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden where he sang the roles of Zaretsky inEugene Onegin, Count Ceprano in Rigoletto, Tom in Un ballo in maschera and Leporello in Don Giovanni. Other roles have included Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Colline inLa Bohème, Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin and Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro. After his “potentially exciting talent” and his “bass of exceptional promise” were praised by The Times in 2006, Vuyani Mlinde quickly became “one of the new stars of the Frankfurt Opera” (Frankfurter Neue Presse) and his “powerful stage presence, fine comic timing and powerful, rich bass-baritone voice” (Classical Source) were acclaimed in the international press.
