In February 2017, the city of Cape Town in South Africa was declared to be in a water crisis, and it was predicted it would become the first major city in the world to run out of water. DAY ZERO was looming, and coming closer if residents used too much water…
It had all the makings of a scary movie… fuelled further by a Save Water campaign launched by the Department of Water and Sanitation.
The department’s ‘mascot’ was an illustration of a harmless water-droplet named Splash… but unfortunately it was transformed into a rather evil-looking costume, which gave rise to many, many jokes on Twitter.
Inspired by the backlash to the mascot, RyGuy (vlogger Ryan Jonathan) created this brilliant mock ‘trailer’ to a water crisis movie, with drone footage from Luke Maximo Bell.
Ryan said on YouTube: “Without warning, the government introduced a top secret political plan that would scare its citizens into shorter showers, less toilet flushes and faulty water management devices.
“One, Two… Splash is coming for you!”
