Serial TV host, actress, and mother of three, Zandi Nhlapo, is back on our screens. This time, she’s not trading in her acting chops for hosting duties; instead, she’s taking the helm of BET’s highly anticipated talk show, ‘Uncut.’

After taking a break from acting for a decade, the former pageant queen returned to the industry in 2021 to star in Imbewu: The Seed. However, her true passion lies in TV presenting, and she considers herself lucky to be back in the hosting chair. “More than anything, I get to be part of the people who give them their flowers while they’re still alive,” she said.

ZANDI NHLAPO ON HER JOURNEY

As reported by SowetanLive, her journey has not been without its challenges and triumphs. She candidly shared how navigating both sides of the spectrum affected her. “Being a well-known person has its pros and cons. You get to have doors open up for you a little easier at times, but sometimes it can be difficult. However, the downside is that people hold certain expectations on you, which can be quite stressful,”  she acknowledged.

Nhlapo, who has been in the entertainment industry for over two decades, is no stranger to the spotlight. She started her career as a dancer in the early 1990s and quickly became a household name.

Speaking about her return to the spotlight, she said, “Now that I’m older, I’m a lot wiser. I’m at an age where I feel that nothing can faze me…not even an ounce of fame can blow my skirt up. I’m ready for TV now.”

WHAT ARE NHLAPO’S THOUGHTS ON ‘UNCUT’?

Nhlapo believes it’s important to recognise the contributions of these individuals who have paved the way for others in the industry.

She relayed this sentiment clearly: “One thing we need to remember there are people who crawled so that some of us can walk tall in this industry. This show is to highlight and showcase that.

“These people gave up their lives, their livelihoods, some even grew up in this industry just to serve the masses with their creative talent. These are the people that need to be celebrated.”

‘Uncut’ is set to premiere on BET in December 2023.
