Watch the trailer below for the new Lifetime Movie – ‘Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer’. The movie – starring South African expat Andreas Damm – chronicles the events of the night that famous SA athlete Pistorius shot and killed his then girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his Pretoria home… which ultimately led to him being found guilty of homicide.
So far South Africans back home have not reacted favourably to the trailer – complaining that the movie title doesn’t make grammatical sense, that South African stories should be told by South Africans and that the accents are all wrong.
The lead role is actually played by a South African. Damm says “I’m from South Africa, I live in New York City, and I love storytelling.”
The former Michaelhouse boy moved to the United States in 2005 to attend the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated from the New School for Drama in 2012. He has dual South African and German citizenship and is fluent in English, Spanish and German. Steenkamp is played by German model and actress Antonia ‘Toni’ Garrn.
On Damm’s instagram page he quotes former SA President Nelson Mandela: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” He also mentions on his website that his speciality is Gumboot Dance.
The movie is based on the true story of Pistorius – who rose to fame through the Paralympic Games as a double-leg amputee (therefore his name Blade Runner) and became the first such athlete to compete in the Olympics, which made him world famous… before catapulting himself to infamy when he killed his girlfriend on the eve of Valentine’s Day.
The film follows the lead-up to that fateful evening… as well as the subsequent court trials.
According to ‘Deadline’, the story is told from the point of view of Steenkamp and her mother, focussing on her relationship with Oscar and the events leading up to the tragic killing.
The Steenkamp and Pistorius families were reportedly not consulted during the making of the movie.
“Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer” will premier in the United States on 11 November 2017.

The accents in Blade Runner Killer won't be the only trash thing about the movie. Cuz I just watched the trailer and NO. pic.twitter.com/u7gvreAX1B
