Phew, try watch this without shedding a tear. If you’re South African, wherever you are in the world, this performance by Siki Jo-An is sure to give you goosebumps and make you so proud to be from Africa.
Taking part in the blind auditions for the third season of The Voice South Africa, Siki’s powerful and pitch-perfect homage to Miriam Makeba’s ‘Oonggothwane’ is AMAZING.
All four judges turned around within seconds after Siki’s piercing ululation shattered the silence on stage as she began her performance.
The Voice SA said on YouTube that Siki “proved she meant business getting one of the fastest four-chair turns EVER and a standing ovation.”
Siki is a 25-year-old drama student from Port Elizabeth who has been performing since she was six. She selected coach Riana.
Lira said: “You made me so proud to be African right now.”
A Facebook download of the video has also gone viral with Capetonian Neil de Beer’s caption: “This is why we are South African ??????????????”
