‘Tracking Thabo Bester’ breaks records on Showmax

The highly anticipated four-part gripping Showmax docu-series, ‘Tracking Thabo Bester’ has dethroned ‘Rosemary’s Hitlist’.

Tracking Thabo Bester has set a new record by racking up the most first-day views of any documentary on Showmax.

Despite a legal challenge from convicted criminal Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana, the highly-anticipated docu-series premiered on Friday, 15 March

‘TRACKING THABO BESTER’ SETS NEW RECORD ON SHOWMAX

Tracking Thabo Bester is a four-part investigation into Thabo Bester; why he was called the ‘Facebook Rapist’ and in originally imprisoned. It also explores how a celebrity doctor fell for a convicted criminal, leaving her children behind to go on the run with him to Tanzania; as well as who really died in Cell 35.

According to the video-on-demand platform, Tracking Thabo Bester surpassed the previous record-holder, Rosemary’s Hitlist. 

The true-crime documentary was also the most-watched title across all genres over the weekend.  

Meanwhile, Magudumana’s lawyer Mochini Motloung has confirmed that her client will shoot her own documentary to counter the narrative in the public space. Especially following the release of Tracking Thabo Bester.

CORRECTIONAL SERVICES PROBING ALLEGED ASSAULT ON DR NANDIPHA MAGUDUMANA

Meanwhile, the Department of Correctional Services has confirmed that it is investigating circumstances that led to Nandipha Magudumana being assaulted in prison.

Magudumana was allegedly assaulted by an inmate on Saturday, 16 March at the Bizzah Makhate Correctional Centre in Free State.

On Monday, 18 March, Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said Magudumana laid a complaint of assault by another inmate.

Nxumalo said the department is investigating the circumstances following what was said to be a prayer meeting in a different cell from Magudumana’s.

“Reports of an alleged altercation and a push against the grills can be confirmed. DCS officials advised Magudumana to open a criminal case when she reported that she was allegedly assaulted. Magudumana opted to discuss it with her lawyers first.

Furthermore, Nxumalo said DCS Healthcare officials conducted an examination on her and found no visible injuries.
