Follow the Guns
In an extraordinary investigation, arms trafficking investigator Kathi Lynn Austin races against time to expose the suppliers and manufacturers of guns and bullets recovered at rhino poaching crime scenes.
Carte Blanche joins forces with Austin, a United Nations arms expert who has founded the Conflict Awareness Project, to reveal the origin of weapons confiscated along the Kruger National Park border fence with Mozambique.
The show traces the owners of businesses who make their living from facilitating the movement of guns from Europe to Southern Africa.
Anti-poaching initiatives consume growing resources with diminishing returns as two or more rhinos are slaughtered for their horns every day and gram for gram rhino horn remains the world’s most lucrative substance.
Carte Blanche reveals how the militarisation of the fight against poachers themselves has yielded little fruit amid a never-ending supply of guns, and we set our sights on a new target – the dedicated gun supply chains that arm the poachers.
