Mnqobi Kunene discusses his ‘Outlaws’ role Kwanele Dlamini
Breakout star Mnqobi Kunene portrays the character of Kwanele Dlamini on Showmax’s hit Western series ‘Outlaws’.
Talented actor Mnqobi Kunene, who scored the role of Kwanele Dlamini in Outlaws says he screamed with excitement when he landed the role.

MNQOBI KUNENE: ‘THIS ROLE WAS MEANT FOR ME’
The fitness trainer and actor Mnqobi Kunene who stars in 1Magic’s drama series How To Manifest A Man also stars in the hit Showmax Original Outlaws as Kwanele Dlamini.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, the rising star Mnqobi Kunene reveals that he screamed with excitement when he found out he got the role.
“I was in the gym. I screamed so loud, people were wondering what was happening with this guy. I was super excited.”
Kunene adds that he feels like this project chose him as he comes from an agricultural background and attended an agricultural school. He truly believes this role was meant for him.
“This story is more like the life I wanted for myself, a life that was the plan when my dad was around. The first audition was on the anniversary of the day my dad passed away, so it felt like it was a gift from him.”
With his agricultural background, it feels like he is incorporating his experiences into the story and reliving his life.

BACKGROUND OF ‘OUTLAWS’
The contemporary Western series, Outlaws, which is created by The River, Legacy’s creators Phathu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon from Tshedza Pictures also stars Siyabonga Shibe, Mnqobi Kunene, Lehlohonolo Mayeza and Nirvana Nokwe-Mseleku.
Makwarela and Beynon have won five Best Scriptwriting SAFTAs in the past four years for hit shows such as The Republic and The River, which was also nominated for an International Emmy.
Outlaws is Tshedza’s second Showmax Original after Adulting, which set a record for the most first-day views of any drama on the streaming service in March 2023.
The Western series is set in the lush but lawless land on the border between Lesotho and KwaZulu-Natal and focuses on the story of two families at war with each other: the Zulu, cattle-farming Biyela clan and the Basotho, cattle-raiding Tseoles.
