MISS WORLD 2023 POSTPONED, MOVED FROM UAE TO INDIA

According to Arab News, the Miss World 2023 pageant was set to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in May 2023. However, the pageant was then moved to India in December 2023. The announcement was made at a press conference in New Delhi, India.

“The decision to award India with this prestigious honour recognises the nation’s rich cultural heritage, its commitment to promoting diversity, and its passion for empowering women,” read the Instagram post.

India last hosted the pageant in 1996 in Bangalore when Irene Skliva of Greece was crowned Miss World. The pageant has now been postponed again. Miss World 2023 will take place on 2 March at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. The pageant was postponed due to elections happening in the country.

WHY WAS THERE A MISS WORLD SA COMPETITION THIS YEAR?

Dr Claude Mashego was crowned Miss World South Africa at the Miss World South Africa pageant which took place in Soweto.

Usually one of the top three Miss SA representatives go to Miss World. What was different this year? As previously reported by The South African, the Miss SA Organisation did not renew it’s license with the international pageant.

Carol Bouwer Productions (CBP), owned by Carol Bouwer, was given the license to host the Miss World SA pageant.

“They [Sun International] would basically upon hosting the Miss South Africa send someone to Miss World, Miss Universe, and Miss Supranational and various others,” she said according to Sunday World.

“Now the Miss World office has given CBP the responsibility to send a rep to them. It means the person that wins Miss SA this year cannot go to the Miss World pageant,” she continued.
