The Miss South Africa organisation has on Thursday announced the Top 16 finalists for the competition. The choices have been welcomed on social media for the “adequate representation” of South African women.
This year’s contestants include young graduates, business owners, women who are inspired and inspiring, and young South African women who’ve had struggles – from Zanele who was involved in a car accident last year and lost the hearing in her left ear; to Kgothatso who grew up with birthmark that made her feel insecure, particularly when she was ridiculed often by her peers… but now she’s in the nation’s biggest beauty contest on a mission to bring hope to those who “feel mistreated, misplaced or misunderstood”. According to a tweet from Miss South Africa, Kgothatso wants to show others that being different can be a blessing.
