Breaking: Matthew Perry tragically dies at 54
So sad. He brought laughter and joy to more than one generation of TV viewers…
Friends actor Matthew Perry has tragically passed away at the age of 54.
He was found unresponsive at his Hollywood home by his assistant in his jacuzzi. The assistant had temporarily left the house to run an errand for Matthew. According to reports, Matthew had earlier been playing pickleball for two hours; and no drugs were found at the scene in Pacific Palisades, LA. The police are investigating although no foul play is suspected.
The American actor had always dreamed of becoming famous, and accomplished that without a doubt with his role in TV series Friends, where he played Chandler Bing. Sadly, he suffered a public battle with pain killers and alcohol, and said in an interview in 2016 that he couldn’t remember filming at least three seasons of the mega-hit show which aired from 1994 to 2004.
Friends’ producer, Warner Bros TV said:
“We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry. Matthew was an incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family. The impact of his comedic genius was felt around the world, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of so many. This is a heartbreaking day, and we send our love to his family, his loved ones, and all of his devoted fans.”
Matthew was born in Massachusetts and raised in Canada by his mother after his parents split. He later moved to LA as a teenager to be nearer to his father.
Tributes have poured in. His on-screen mother Morgan Fairchild said: “I’m heartbroken about the untimely death of my ‘son’, Matthew Perry. The loss of such a brilliant young actor is a shock.”
Matthew who once dated Julia Roberts was also remembered by former girlfriend and actress Selma Blair. She said: “All of us loved Matthew Perry, and I did especially. Every day. I loved him unconditionally. And he me. And I’m broken. Broken hearted. Sweet dreams Matty. Sweet dreams.”
Earlier this week he posted “Let’s make stigmas a stigma. -I’m Mattman #mentalhealth” and posted several Batman references. On 23 October he posted the following picture in his jacuzzi and said: “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman”
