One of Nas Daily’s recent videos is going viral amongst South Africans as it warns SA – and several other countries – of ‘The Chinese Money Trap’.
The popular videographer, who has over 12 million followers on Facebook and has visited most countries in the world (including South Africa more than once), uploaded the video on Friday. Using the examples of Sri Lanka and Papua New Guinea, Nas shows how he believes China is slowly taking over the world through loans that put countries in debt.
He said: “This is a sensitive topic, but it’s one I’ve wanted to show you for a while.
“After traveling the world for 3 years, I think I saw more Chinese construction people than local ones in many countries.” He says he’s worked out why.
According to Nas, if you look closely at all the infrastructure projects funded by the Chinese, they connect to China through the sea or land to “form something far bigger, far more powerful than just the bridge – a new Silk Road.
“The world is already ‘made by China’. I think slowly it will become owned by China.”
Nas concedes that building bridges, ports, highways and airports is a great thing for people and their countries, but that there’s no such thing as a free lunch, and this infrastructure “comes at a very high cost”. He says when these countries can’t pay back the loans, “they will lose their homes”.
South Africa and Kenya are two of the countries that Nas says he saw this happening in.
