South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa is attending the funeral of the UK’s longest reigning monarch which starts at Westminster Abbey before then moving to Windsor Castle for an intimate service, followed by a private burial.
The Queen, who passed away at the age 96 on 8 September 2022.
The President arrived at the London Standted Airport on Sunday and was received by High Commissioner in the United Kingdom (UK), Kingsley Mamabolo, and British Senior Government representatives.
Immediately after the State Funeral Service, the UK Foreign Secretary, The Rt Hon James Cleverly MP, is set to host a reception for Heads of State and Government and other distinguished guests in the precincts of Westminster Abbey. President Ramaphosa will then return to South Africa to address the Stage 6 loadshedding crisis.
Full schedule for the Queen’s funeral
All times are SA times:
7.30am The Queen’s lying-in-state comes to a close.
11.44am The Queen’s coffin is taken to Westminster Abbey.
Midday Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral service will begin.
12.55pm There is a national two-minute silence.
1.15pm Public procession as Her Majesty is taken to Wellington Arch.
1pm Her Majesty is transferred to a hearse and taken to Windsor Castle.
4.10pm The Queen’s coffin arrives in Windsor and proceeds up the Long Walk and to St. George’s Chapel where Her Majesty will be buried next to Prince Philip.
