A video has surfaced Friday night showing an armed attack on a vehicle at a Caltex fuel station in Delft, South Africa, which reportedly led to one fatality. Swift police action has reportedly already led to two arrests.
The video was uploaded by safety advocate Yusuf Abramjee. It was believed at the time to be an apparent robbery and failed hijacking in Delft, a township next to Cape Town International Airport.
However, according to several social media users – including twitter user REZA, CEO at Crime Air Network Initiative – it was a deliberate hit and “a female passenger has died en route to hospital. It’s unclear who the woman is and the motive behind the shooting.”
In an update Saturday morning, REZA said it was “taxi-related violence. It was a hit. Aimed at owner who was the driver of MV. Perps shot female in process of attempting to get him.”
Two suspects can be seen in the video. The first suspect shoots at the passenger side of the vehicle, and then shoots again from behind the vehicle when he runs away. At that point the second suspect can also be seen, running with him.
According to REZA quick reaction from police has led to two arrests. There is a hunt on for a further two suspects.
Rumours on WhatsApp claim the victim was the wife of an alleged gang leader. This has not been confirmed.
