The well known former Times Media building, at 4 Biermann Avenue in Rosebank, was imploded Sunday morning. Watch below.

Journalists took to social media to reminisce about the old offices – the friendships, the deadlines, the start of their careers there. Some were in tears, and some admitted they’d often thought of blowing up the offices themselves!

Beeyankah Nkomo said: “7 years ago, a wet-eared, terrified final-year Journalism student got off the Gautrain (with her last few rands) and sought out this building. My first grown-up job interview. My first taste of real, raw, Journalism. My 1st taste of “Heady goesy herey pleasy” whether you like it or not! I’ve worked in every newsroom in there since then as some of the best Journalistic minds poured their knowledge and enthusiasm in me. Goodbye 4 Biermann Avenue and thank you!”

The area will be replaced with a new 90,000m2 development called The Galleria – including a hotel, apartments and offices.
