South Africans have been shocked by a distressing video circulated on social media of a Game Reserve owner, Mike Hodge, being mauled by one of his lions.
Hodge, the British owner of a private park near Thabazimbi in Limpopo, has fortunately survived the attack and is now hospitalised.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, told News24 that the incident happened on Monday.
“The owner was immediately taken to hospital with serious injuries. He is currently recuperating,” said Ngoepe, adding that the man sustained injuries to his neck and jaw.
In a video clip, Hodge is seen walking behind the lion in the den. The lion quickly spots him, attacks and pulls him to the ground and drags him further towards the bushes.
Horrified onlookers are heard screaming, and a woman cries uncontrollably: “Somebody help, please! Oh my God!”
Please note: the video is distressing. Since News24 posted the footage yesterday, it has been viewed over 1 million times.
