GAUTENG – Motorists filmed the footage below as a Cash-in-Transit van was blown up with explosives in broad daylight, in the middle of traffic, during a heist near the airport on Saturday, 1 April 2017, in Kempton Park, South Africa.
South African Police Services (SAPS) said: “At about 11:40 on the R24 near Barbara Road towards the airport, a group of suspects travelling in a BMW and Mercedes Benz, confronted Cash-In-Transit security guards after a tyre of their vehicle had been shot.
“The guards were forced out of the vehicle before the suspects blew their cash van with explosives. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money in cash boxes and one of the guard’s firearm. They then fled from the scene in two vehicles. The guards were not injured.”
SAPS has since recovered the two vehicles that were involved in the robbery, abandoned at Isando. The suspects are still at large.
