A video has emerged which claims to show armed farmers confronting protesters in Jan Kempdorp in South Africa last night.
A video posted by Ncamim Maphalala to a group on FB at around midnight last night, says: “As I type this out there are armed white farmers confronting protesters in Jankempdorp in the North-West, with live ammunition!!! This video shows footage from about two hours ago in Jankempdorp, North West Province.”
Protests have been ongoing in the area during the last few days over poor service delivery. Last night protesters were photographed looting shops and a police vehicle was set on fire.
Racism has also erupted in several areas. Yesterday the DA condemned the “reported racial attack on Mr Shimmy Mosienyane in Hartswater yesterday”.
Andrew Louw – DA Northern Cape Provincial Leader – said: “Mr Mosienyane was allegedly run over by a farmer, who also called him the K-word, whilst escaping police force during the ongoing protests in Hartswater. He suffered spinal injuries and is awaiting surgery in Kimberley Hospital.”
He called on the people of the Northern Cape to allow for the law to take its course, and not take matters into their own hands.
A week ago a Reivilo couple was attacked on their farm near Jan Kempdorp in the Northern Cape, in the middle of the night. Christo and Lizelle Bosman were attacked and tied up by around eight suspects while they were sleeping. Items were stolen, including a vehicle which was later found near to Kuruman. Christo sustained several stab wounds to his chest during the attack.

The DA has accused President Cyril Ramaphosa of “fiddling” while the North West and Eastern Cape burn.
Refiloe Nt’sekhe – DA National Spokesperson – said in a statement Wednesday that the DA once again appeals to Ramaphosa, to listen to the people’s call for North West Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, and Eastern Cape, Phumulo Masualle to be removed.
“Residents of Keiskammahoek and Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape, and Mafikeng, Vryburg and Taung in the North West have taken to the streets to protest against poor service delivery, corruption and unemployment,” said Nt’sekhe.
“These protests are on the back of resistance from Masualle and Mahumapelo to mounting calls by deeply residents that they vacate office. The protests have resulted in violence…
“Ramaphosa’s failure to recall these Premiers is a clear demonstration of his protection of leaders who are indifferent to the plight of the people who they purport to serve…
“If Ramaphosa is serious about the “New Dawn” he has promised our people, he will recall Mahumapelo and Massualle without further delay.”
The DA said both Premiers have presided over poor health care and education systems and both have been at the centre of large-scale corruption.
The Eastern Cape is South Africa’s poorest province and its people are trapped in poverty, says the DA… whilst in the North West, there has been a complete shutdown of health care services and infrastructure development is non-existent.
