UPDATE: Brenton Added to Urgent Evacuation Instructions from Knysna Municipality
Knysna Municipality has just issued the following instruction: “RESIDENTS AT FLENTER LOCATION, RHOBOLOLO, GREENFIELDS AND JOODSEKAMP NEED TO GET READY FOR EVACUATION. Knysna Municipality has just issued the following instruction: “RESIDENTS AT FLENTER LOCATION, RHOBOLOLO, GREENFIELDS AND JOODSEKAMP NEED TO GET READY FOR EVACUATION. PLEASE MOVE TO AREA OF KHAYALETHU HALL, DAMSEBOS SPORTS GROUNDS, HORNLEE SPORTS GROUNDS!” UPDATE: Brenton has been added to this list at 13h15. Knysna Municipality says: “Brenton residents please evacuate to the Knysna High School Sports Ground in Long Street, Central Knysna.” Updated 14h30: Due to the change in wind direction, evacuation of White Location is no longer required.
If you know anybody in those areas, please let them know.
In the meantime, the Municipality ask that for safety reasons, everyone remain indoors as much as possible today.
The Knysna Municipality also issued an urgent call for “volunteers with vehicles / trucks / taxis/ bakkies etc to help transfer people from the Chris Nissen collection point to Khayalethu Hall. Please go there directly and take the N2 back to form a circular route.”
The N2 between Knysna and George is closed until further notice.
The Municipality asks that locals in the area please do not attempt to try and drive to George, Sedgefield or Knysna.
