Bezweni Lodge has posted photos today showing the extensive damage the beautiful resort suffered on Tuesday, 3 January 2017, as fires – fuelled by extremely strong winds – raged through Sir Lowry’s Pass, Somerset West, in South Africa.
On Tuesday, Lodge manager Peter Weideman had posted a message on Facebook saying simply: “To all our Bezweni Lodge guests, we had a big fire today at the lodge, lodge has burned please keep us in your prayers…”
At the time he said he was not yet sure of the extent of the damages, but reported that thankfully everyone was okay and no-one was harmed.
Yesterday Peter and Frank, who are well known and loved in the community, posted their first update since the devastating fire, letting guests and supporters know that they are “deeply saddened” to report that their “beautiful lodge was gutted in the terrible fires”.
They asked those who have already booked to contact them for assistance in finding alternative accommodation; and they requested 4-star guest houses in the area to contact Marinda Holtzhausen if they can accommodate Bezweni guests.
Peter and Frank said “Thank you for your support and prayers. It is greatly appreciated.”
Bezweni Lodge will be holding a press conference tomorrow.
