The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 68-year-old cyclist in Fish Hoek on Tuesday morning, 13 March 2018.
In a statement posted on Wednesday evening, SAPS said the suspects were arrested with the murdered cyclist’s bicycle and telephone.
One of the suspects was arrested for being in possession of the victim’s bicycle, and the other for being in possession of his cell phone.
According to SAPS, the victim was stabbed multiple times while cycling on an off-road trail, and robbed of his possessions. The incident occurred at around 09h00 yesterday morning.
The suspects, both in their twenties, are due to make a court appearance on Friday in Simons Town for the possession of suspected stolen property.
Although the name of the deceased man is known, it has not yet been released.
According to a Whatsapp community group, the murder suspect is known to police and was being tracked earlier in the day. It’s unsure whether that was before or after the second arrest today.
SAPS said: “We are yet to charge a suspect for murder, and the circumstances surrounding the matter are still under investigation.”
