Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga was reportedly hijacked in the early hours of Saturday morning after dining with friends in Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa.
Social cohesion advocate Yusuf Abramjee took to Twitter to ask people to share a photo of the Mayor’s car in an attempt to retrieve it.
He said it is a grey Mercedes Benz CLS 250 with registration FT 43 XH GP.
According to the latest South African crime stats, 46 people are hijacked daily.
Msimanga told News24 he was accosted by two men as he was leaving the restaurant. One apparently had a gun. He said: “It looks like they were just targeting the car, they wanted the car and nothing else. I gave them the keys and that was it.”
The car was last seen heading to Pretoria North.
