A South African father is due to appear in court tomorrow on charges of murder after allegedly shooting his 14-year-old son dead outside an Ennerdale school, south of Johannesburg on Tuesday night.
The father reportedly dropped off his son for evening classes at school, and fell asleep while waiting to take his son home.
When the Grade 11 boy had finished class, he allegedly knocked on the car window, which gave his sleeping father a fright… and in a country where hijackings and crime are rife, the man instinctively took out his firearm and allegedly shot his own son, mistaking him for a criminal.
The teenage learner died on his way to hospital.
Today the DA said: “Crime in South Africa has reached crisis levels. As such, incidents like this are becoming the norm as many people in our country do not feel safe in their homes, places of work and their communities. It is clear that we need to restore order in South Africa and ensure that the SAPS are a viable solution to crime.”
