South African Expat Back in the USA After Being Banned from Mount Everest in Nepal

South African wannabe Everest climber, Ryan Sean Davy, is back in the USA after being arrested in Nepal for trying to climb Mount Everest without the $11,000 permit.

The authorities kindly allowed him to return home without paying the hefty $22,000 fine (until recently he was living out of a van to save for this summit)… but he has been banned from climbing the mountain for a decade.

Ryan was caught after he was found hiding in a cave near Everest’s famous base camp. The 43-year-old has no previous mountaineering experience… but in pursuit of his dream to write a book and make a movie about climbing Everest, he had already climbed to Camp One, which is at 6,000m, traversing challenging and dangerous terrain!

Based in Aspen, Colorado, Ryan had been teaching himself to climb using videos and books!

“Hello everyone, I’m baaAack!!!!,” the Producer at Controversial Entertainment wrote on his facebook page Friday. “I just really want to take this opportunity to say that I can’t thank those enough who have supported me and forgiven me and encouraged me through my debacle with Mount Everest and the non permit climb.

“To my family who have handled all the press related issues and embassy communications like absolute professionals – especially my sister Bonita-lee Davy and my Dad David V Davy, I couldn’t have asked for a better PA and PR support crew… and once again a real big apology for the stress I put on you all.

“Also a big shout out to the Nepalese Tourism Department who have done their best to acknowledge my interests and intentions on the mountain.

“And last but not least the South African Embassy and Consulate for working around the clock in handling my case with respect and sensitivity.

“Although I spent 7 days in jail and have been banned from climbing any Nepalese mountains for 10 years. I have however been pardoned of all my wrong doing and have been granted free passage to return to the USA.

“Thank you to the God and the Guardian who have been by my side during the climbs and the trials of my actions.

“Goodbye Himalayas, I will miss you like the summer misses the rain!”

South Africa’s rhino will benefit as many of those who donated to the mission have asked that the money be given to a Rhino Orphanage instead.

Ryan told reporters his dream to climb Everest is not over… but next time he will try from the Tibet side instead… and get a permit first!
