Sir Lowry’s Pass in Strand, South Africa, has been re-opened following a horrific accident this morning at around 08h30, in which a Polo and a taxi had a head-on collision.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene they found the taxi and Polo both engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Polo tragically could not get out of the vehicle in time and he was declared dead on the scene, said ER24.

According to the emergency service’s spokesperson, Annine Siddall, one person has been left in a critical condition and transported to heidelberg Hospital, and four other patients – believed to be in their 20s – sustained moderate to minor injures in the collision.

Local authorities attended the scene and will conduct an investigation.

Roads are now open, but please expect delays.
