SA Sends Condolences to UAE Following Helicopter Crash that Killed South African Paramedic

South Africa has sent its condolences to the people of United Arab Emirates (UAE) following a helicopter crash that claimed the lives of four people in the North-Eastern region of the country, including a South African paramedic.

“The government and people of South Africa wish to extend its sincere condolences to the Government and people of the UAE following a helicopter crash in Ras al-Khaimah in the North-Eastern region of the country,” said the Department of International Relations and Cooperation on Sunday.

The crash killed four crew members – including Mark Roxburgh – who were on a search and rescue mission.

“The South African Government sends its sincere condolences to UAE’s National Search and Rescue Centre, the crew’s families and in particular to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr Mark Roxburgh.”

The South African Consulate in Dubai is currently providing consular assistance to the Roxburgh family who say they have been overwhelmed by the international support, including condolences from the SA Department of International Relations and Co-operation and people around the world.

Roxburgh’s sister Lindy-Lee Felix told the SABC: “He was very easy to like and from what I’ve learnt only now from this horrible incident is how many people held him in such high favour and that has been very humbling to see how many people have been affected by him.

“I think the support we’ve received in the last, gosh; it hasn’t even been 24 hours, just been really phenomenal. I’m so grateful that there are those who shared some beautiful words with us, some beautiful memories with us, and I’m proud to say that I’m his sister.”
