This heart-wrenching photo of an eight-week-old Labrador puppy in South Africa depicts one of many cruelty cases that Claws Animal-Welfare in Welkom, Free State, have had so far during this festive season.
This young dog was burnt with boiling water, according to Cindy Bortnowski, who runs non-profit charity Claws in Welkom with Rochelle Howard.
Cindy told SAPeople they had received a complaint about the cruelty to the pup, along with a photo.
“There are witnesses that saw someone throw boiling water at her. She has old scars on the other side of her body that indicate that it is not the first time it has happened,” she said.
“We confiscated the pup and are busy with investigations. This type of cruelty unfortunately often happens…”
The pup has been to the vet and is currently at Cindy’s house being treated for her injuries. She will be available for adoption once she has healed. Please contact Cindy on 072 226 1735.
If you would like to donate to this Labrador and all the other injured animals’ veterinary expenses this holiday season, please visit Claws’ FB page for donation details – click here.
Cindy and Rochelle have been open for 15 years. Both are qualified animal inspectors, AWA’s and nothing less than angels – responding to cruelty complaints, rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing animals in need.
