Proteas captain Temba Bavuma has admitted that today’s Twenty20 World Cup match brought a bittersweet ending for the South African team who gave it their all, won against England, but lost the chance to go through to the semi-finals.
Speaking from Sharjah, in the UAE, today, Bavuma said: “A bittersweet ending for us. We achieved what we wanted to by winning the game but we obviously didn’t win it well enough. We gave it our all with the bat and we were largely good with the ball.”
South Africa won by 10 Runs, but despite Kagiso Rabada’s amazing T20 World Cup over hat-trick… it wasn’t enough to make it through to the semi-finals. South Africa needed to not only win but secure a massive run-rate to clinch a position in the final four. .
Cricket SA tweeted: “From everyone in the #Proteas camp, thank you for all the messages of support and for getting behind the boys. The team could not have displayed their grit and determination without you all.” They congratulated Rabada on adding the hat-trick to “your list of achievements”.
England goes through to the semi-finals as well as Australia who beat SA on net run-rate count. All three teams had ended the five matches with eight points.
