The photos were first uploaded by the MountZion General Assembly (MZGA) official page, where it says “God is speaking today under the grace of prophet Lethebo Rabalago”.

Rabalago – who apparently founded MZGA – then shared the photos on his personal page where followers praised him… whilst others uploaded the effects when humans swallow sprays containing pyrethrins (breathing difficulties, seizures, vomiting).

MZGA uploaded the pics – including the one above – late Sunday night, with a “live update” saying that at the Sunday Service in Limpopo their Prophet (who they also call Detective) Lethebo had called sick people to come forward and Mrs Mitala (pictured) had heeded the call.

“She went to the forth and told the Prophet that she suffers from ulcer,” wrote MZGA. “The Prophet sprayed Doom on her and she received her healing and deliverance. We give God the glory!”

MZGA also uploaded Lethebo’s “Mookgopong Night Prayer”: By my name, you shall drive out demons. By my name, you shall pick up snakes. Anything you touch, receives favour because of the anointing upon you. Doom is just a name, but when you speak to it to become a healing product, it does. People get healed and delivered through doom. Its not by might nor by power, but by the HolySpirit. We give God the glory!!

The ‘prophet’ is the same pastor who was embroiled in controversy in August when he allegedly put a heavy speaker on top of a woman to demonstrate his power to perform miracles. Photos circulated on social media and the story was published by several fake news sites claiming she had either fainted or died.

Today one of Lethebo’s congregation wrote: “So Mohlanka you are trending ? #propheticlaughter #we love you nonetheless, more divine, strange still to be seen through you. You are confirmed from above.”

These type of events are not totally uncommon in South Africa where religious leaders have been able to persuade their congregation of the healing powers of unlikely sources like Doom, snakes and petrol.

The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Cultural‚ Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL), based in Joburg, is investigating several similar incidents of abuse, and members of the public are able to contact the CRL to report and lodge complaints: www.crlcommission.org.za

UPDATE from Tiger Brands, producers of Doom:We find this practice alarming and extremely concerning, and want to make very clear that it is unsafe to spray any Doom or any aerosol onto people’s faces… Tiger Brands is in the process of contacting the Prophet to ask him to refrain from such practice.”
