The Presidency has issued a statement rejecting the allegations in the Sunday Times on Sunday 29 October 2017, claiming wrongdoing by South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma in relation to undeclared funds.
The claims are made in investigative journalist Jacques Pauw’s new book “The President’s Keepers” (out today), of which the newspaper has serialised excerpts.
The book alleges not only that President Zuma didn’t file tax returns for the first five years, at least, of his term… but that he also benefitted from receiving R1-million/month in undeclared funds from a security company for the first few months of his presidency.
“President Zuma has declared to the relevant authorities all income received and allegations contained in the reports are misleading and are clearly part of the ongoing smear campaigns,” the Presidency said today.
According to the Presidency, the tax matters of the President are in order.
The President has also not received any information related to taxes linked to the Nkandla upgrades as alleged by the media, said the statement. – SAnews.gov.za
