MPUMALANGA – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a manhunt for a suspect following the recovery of a stolen bakkie that was being smuggled inside a truck!
The hidden vehicle was discovered yesterday afternoon, 5 December, at the Lebombo Port of Entry where it’s believed the driver was hoping to cross the border to Mozambique. A video of the discovery has been going viral ever since.
SAPS said in a statement that police at the border noticed the suspicious white One Turner Truck, with Mozambican registration number plates, fully loaded with traditional brooms.
Concerned there was something “sinister” about the truck, the police approached to question the driver but were told that he had gone to the SARS offices to complete the required documents to cross the border with goods.
When police could not find the driver at the SARS officers, they began searching the truck.
“Whilst removing the traditional brooms, they discovered a white Ford Ranger with false registration number plate. Upon further probe, police found that the vehicle was reported stolen at a garage in Sandton (Gauteng) on 30 November 2020,” said SAPS.
