A South African paramedic, who appeared on a Sky news segment about loadshedding (planned power cuts) in SA, has created a hard-hitting TikTok video that hits the nail on the head, according to many South Africans.
In the video, addressed to “Dear Cyril Ramaphosa” Medic Nix does not hold back, revealing how difficult the job of a paramedic in SA is… unable to phone patients and get their proper pin location, because the electricity is down; delayed in awful traffic congestion because robots (traffic lights) aren’t working during load-shedding. She told Sky News how they get called to hospitals to manually ventilate patients to keep them alive, because generators have stopped working. Nix said the Sky programme also interviewed an old granny with COPD whose oxygen machine stops working, and reported on a baby who died in an incubator because the hospital ran out of power to keep the baby alive.
Medic Nix, who is MD of HealthTraining.co.za, tells Ramaphosa:
“You must be so proud of yourself. Your pockets are getting fuller and fuller and fuller. And the corruption is getting riper and riper and riper, while YOUR people, your fellow South Africans are dying.”
But she doesn’t stop there. She then says:
“This is not just about power anymore. This is about life and death… and you are doing f*ck all about it!”
Writing on her TikTok page where she shares survival stories, Medic Nix said: “Cry my beloved country. Everyone is being affected and its no longer about “POWER” it’s about LIFE&DEATH.”
