Men Racing Between Lovers Blamed for their High Fatality Rate on SA’s Roads

ELDORADO PARK – South Africa’s Transport Minister has blamed men’s infidelity for so many men perishing on SA’s roads.

“Men are the most people who die on our roads because of their unfaithful behaviours by having multiple partners,” said Minister Dipuo Peters.

“They always rushing from partner to another,” she explained.

The Minister made the observation at the launch of the 2016 Festive Season Road Safety campaign on the N12 highway in Eldorado Park, near Soweto, earlier on Saturday.

She also said the most dangerous people on the roads are those who “drink as if there is no tomorrow”.

Peters said that errant motorists will face the music this festive season, warning that law enforcement officers will be out in full force, and will adopt a zero tolerance approach in order to ensure the safety of all road users.

Motorists caught driving above the speed limit will be arrested on the spot, and those who drink and drive will not be tolerated.

She urged motorists and pedestrians to be responsible to avoid spending the festive season behinds bards, or being killed in a crash.

During the Festive Season campaign launch, the Minister took part in a nearby roadblock where scores of minibus taxis were impounded for being unroadworthy or operating without valid permits.

Last year there was a slight decline in the death toll on South Africa’s roads, with 1,368 people dying between 1 December 2015 and 5 January 2016. That’s still more than died in the entire year of 2015 in a country like Australia which shares similar long distance festive season habits to South Africa but has half our population. – SAnews.gov.za
