A man in Beihai City in China plunged into a 2-metre deep sinkhole… because he was too busy looking at his smart phone to notice the ground had opened up in front of him!
The cause of the hole – which at 5m across and 8m long puts South African potholes to shame! – is currently being investigated.
According to Chinese media, the man suffered no serious injuries. The area has since been cordoned off to prevent further accidents.

South Africa’s Arrive Alive says: “Drivers generally understand that drink-driving is a serious risk, but have less of an understanding about the dangers of texting.” A recent study found that manual text messaging elevated the risk of a crash or near crash to more than 23 times higher than “non distracted” driving.
