The African National Congress Youth League( ANCYL) Costal College’s chairperson, Bongani Usher Mkhize has been fatally wounded.
Mkhize was shot dead in uMlazi. It is understood that Mkhize was at the Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) provincial elective conference and was shot as he was returnig from the conference.
KZN ANCYL secretary, Thanduxolo Sabelo confirmed his death.
Sabelo said “Bongani ‘Usher’ Mkhize, chair of the YL in Coastal KZN College and ANC ward 87 branch deputy chair was shot and killed.”
Sabelo also confirmed that Mkhize attended the conference but was not a delegate. Mkhize was described as a “promising young leader”.
The newly elected chairperson Sihle Zikalala conveyed his condolences to Mkhize’s family and, according to eNCA, he said they are “comforted by the fact that Mkhize’s alleged killer has been arrested and it doesn’t appear to be politically motivated but an act of pure criminality.”
The suspect is charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, and is due to appear in Umlazi magistrate court next week.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Mkhize’s family and friends.
