DA leader Mmusi Maimane said of Zuma’s reshuffle: “The obvious target was SACP leader, Dr. Blade Nzimande, who follows Pravin Gordhan, Derek Hanekom, Mcebisi Jonas and others who have failed to toe the Zuma line and have found themselves out of office.”
Local analysts also cite the reason for the reshuffle as Zuma’s bid to push through the R1-trillion nuclear deal.
Zuma said he had made the changes after careful consideration.
New SABC Board
While he was at it, the South African President also appointed a new SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation) board on Tuesday – with Bongumusa Makhathini as Chairperson and Febe Potgieter-Gqubule as Deputy Chairperson. The new board members include former board member Krish Naidoo.
Rand Drops
Zuma’s National Executive cabinet reshuffle announcement immediately set off a drop in the Rand against the dollar, and the weakening of SA government bonds.
AfriForum to Prosecute Duduzane
AfriForum also announced today that the first person it will be privately prosecuting is the President’s son – Duduzane Zuma.
