Parliament has confirmed that former Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has resigned as an ANC Member of Parliament.
Last week, Peters was one of the many ministers fired by President Jacob Zuma in his Cabinet Reshuffle. She was replaced by Joe Maswanganyi. Peters’ resignation is effective from 31 March, which means she will not be able to get even with Zuma by voting in the Motion of No Confidence.
On her Twitter profile, she describes herself as “a disciplined and loyal member of the ANC”, and said she “never embarrassed God nor South Africa”.
It has also been revealed that Director General at National Treasury, Lungisa Fuzile, will leave Treasury next month.
His contract was only due to end in May 2018, but the Treasury said: “However last week, he requested former Minister Pravin Gordhan for a redetermination of his contract with the exit date of 15 May 2017. He has been indicating his desire to leave Treasury for some time.”
Fuzile has been with the Treasury for 20 years.
The DA’s Finance Minister David Maynier said Fuzile’s “imminent departure” is a blow to National Treasury, as he was key in the fight against “state capture”.
Maynier said however that his departure was no surprise as “he has been on President Jacob Zuma’s “hit list” for a long time.”
