While Cape Town in South Africa is still struggling through a devastating drought, Melbourne in Australia has reportedly received a summer’s worth of rain in just 24 hours (watch below).
Heavy rain and flooding hit Melbourne and other parts of the state of Victoria over the weekend. According to local reports, over 43mm of rain fell on Melbourne during the 24 hours into early Sunday morning. The city received more rain in the last two days than it usually does during the whole month of December.
The “super storm” caused flash floods and resulted in over 2,700 calls from residents in the state for help and assistance.
Although some flood warnings are still in place in the north-east of Victoria, it’s expected that the rain will ease for the rest of the weekend, and that the worst is over.
A dramatic rescue has unfolded in Melbourne's south-west.
