Eskom’s Group Treasurer Andre Pillay has tendered his resignation in the latest high-profile exit from South Africa’s power utility, since its chief executive quit earlier this year.
No reason was given for his resignation. As requested by Eskom, Pillay will stay a couple of months until the end of August 2019 “to ensure a seamless transition and business continuity through the handover process”.
Pillay started with Eskom in 2011, and was promoted to his current position in 2016.
Eskom said his contribution has been “immeasurable and we appreciate the role that he played”, and thanked Pillay for his “passionate dedication and contribution towards managing Eskom’s liquidity through some of the most challenging times for the company”.
Eskom is hoping that a R230-billion bailout pledged in February by the SA government, will help in its urgent recovery.
Pillay’s replacement will be announced shortly.
