#EnoughisEnough – South Africans have had ENOUGH!

There’s a feeling in the country that South Africans have had enough of the relentless violence and corruption, and a tragic toddler may become the emblem of hope that brings the majority of citizens together to fight for a better, safer country for all.

Four-year-old Taegrin Morris became the latest victim this weekend in yet another crime that paid little attention to race or socio-economic standing. It seems everyone – across all shades of the rainbow nation – has been a victim to South African crime, or knows someone who has. And #EnoughisEnough.

When the generosity of a beautiful taxi-driver who offers advice and R10 to a young job applicant becomes nationwide news, you know there is a need and a desperate longing for more ubuntu in the beloved country.

In the last couple of days South Africans have started spreading the message across social media – #enoughisenough.

And this feeling – and desire to do something constructive to create the change that South Africa needs – is not just within its borders. Many South Africans abroad, contrary to myth, are desperate to help see their country thrive and prosper and be a safer place for everyone.

At SAPeople we have received so many concerned messages in the past few weeks – perhaps since the Elections – from South Africans in and outside South Africa. And most of them want to do something positive.

In fact today, one expat Celia Hurter wrote to SAPeople suggesting all expats move back:

“I think we should forget about “what if’s”…return to our country…spread the love…and just BE… I so love my country and OUR people… On holiday for eight weeks, and SA people are so pleasant with such an excellent sense of humour… Just wonderful being here…”

It’s not the answer for all, but there are answers and many South Africans living overseas have alternative experiences or funds which could help. One thing is for sure – we can find the solutions if we work together. Where there’s a will…there’s a way.

It’s not too late to ensure South Africa is the most wonderful place on earth…for everyone…including four-year-olds sitting in the back seat of their family car.

Background Info

Taegrin Morris is the little 4-year-old boy who was dragged to his death at the weekend, after his parents’ car was hijacked near their home in Reiger Park, 8.5 kilometres outside of Boksburg.

The boy’s parents and sister were forced out of the car during the carjacking.

According to the Gauteng Premier David Makhura it is likely that the hijackers were under the influence of drugs because this act was so “heartless”.

“Dragging a small boy for 8 km shows they could have been under the influence of drugs, as we know the community has a drug problem,” said Makhura.

The hijackers dragged Taegrin, who had been left in his safety belt, until Boksburg…and then abandoned the vehicle.

It was reported that Taegrin’s mother would be called to possibly identify one of the hijackers today.
