eThekwini Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, made a major blunder this week when it advertised its official website… with a gorgeous photo of Auckland, New Zealand!
Opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), were quick to pounce on the error in the ANC-led city.
The two parties have been at loggerheads this week with DA provincial leader and local councillor, Zwakele Mncwango, leading a picket outside the Durban City Hall on Tuesday to “protest against the rampant corruption and bad governance in eThekwini Municipality”.
Mncwango posted screenshots of the blunder and said it was as bad as MTN posting photo of Vodacom.
He said: “So EThekwini Municipality is not proud of our own images but prefer to use other cities. Only in eThekwini Municipality this will be allowed because no one cares about the crisis in the city.”
Minutes after his post questioning the “false images”, the City apparently updated the pic with a Durban beach view (the posts have since been removed).
Mncwango said on Facebook that he will be writing to City Integrity “to investigate those behind this embarrassment and false advertising is unethical conduct.”
This morning he lightened up a little and joked: “Radical change brought to you by the ANC, You went to bed in Durban and you wake up in Auckland. Sifike Kanjani lana? #DeceptiveAdvertising”.
