British model and businesswoman Katie Price has revealed to UK press that she was sexually assaulted in South Africa during a shocking carjacking in 2018, and was left with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The car-jacking near Ermelo in March 2018 made international headlines at the time – when 12 British tourists, including children, were left traumatised after being robbed in Mpumalanga on their way to Swaziland to film a London children’s programme.
Three people were badly injured and rushed to hospital in the incident, including one man who was knocked unconscious with a strike to his head. (See video below.)
At the time it was alleged that Katie Price was amongst the group, which she has now confirmed. The children were her children – Harvey (17), Junior (14) and Princess (12). At the time they were 15, 12 and 10 and the experience was every child and mother’s nightmare.
The reason they pulled over in that spot on the N17 was because Junior needed to go to the toilet.
“Six men attacked us after we stopped because my son Junior needed a wee,” Katie said on Channel 4’s programme ‘Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins’.
The 41-year-old model, who first became famous in the UK and much of the world under the pseudonym ‘Jordan’, said she was held at gunpoint and “groped”.
Katie, who is a controversial figure in the UK, says she had to be admitted to The Priory rehab clinic to recover from the horrific experience which left her with PTSD.
The mom of five said: “We should never have been allowed to make that journey without security.
“It was like something from a horror film. This big man in an Adidas hoody was shouting in my face, swearing and demanding I give him everything. And he was touching me down below.
“I grabbed a pillow and launched myself in front of the kids, trying to protect them; waiting for a bullet to hit me. I thought I was going to die.
“Police said it was a miracle they didn’t kill us.
“Since then I’ve had to get a protection dog for the family, and it has been so hard on poor Princess, my daughter — she can’t go anywhere on her own.”
At the time of the attack, South African Police Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said: “We are pleading with motorists not to stop in dark areas because this area they stopped at is very dark.”
The tourists’ belongings such as cell phones, laptops, passports and cash were all stolen; although the attackers left the camera crew’s expensive equipment.
Katie Price says she never pressed charges at the time because she “couldn’t bear the ordeal”.
