Bomb Device Found in Verulam Mosque, South Africa

A bomb device was discovered on Sunday night at the Imam Husain Mosque in Verulam, South Africa, where one man was killed and two injured during a horrific attack at the KwaZulu-Natal mosque on Thursday.

Reaction Unit South Africa reported on social media that it had evacuated several residences in the Ottawa area and cleared the mosque after a device resembling a bomb (see below) had been found inside the building.

Reaction Unit SA said the white device was connected via wires to a Nokia mobile phone, and was found under the Moulana’s (Muslim cleric’s) chair. It was moved by a worshipper.

On Thursday 10 May 2018 three people were attacked and had their throat slit. One person – Abbas Essop – died en route to hospital. The victim’s home was one of those evacuated last night.

According to the last report, the Bomb Disposal Unit has assessed the device and it has been removed from the property to be analysed by police.
