The body of missing man, Leighton Frank Agg (41), has been found, his devastated sister has confirmed. Leighton was last seen in Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on 30 September. His family issued a call for help in finding him and hundreds responded. Last night – Wed 7 Oct – his body was retrieved just outside Pietermaritzburg.
“An arrest has been made by the SAPS (South African Police Service). Further arrests are imminent,” said Brad Nathanson Investigations in a post on Thursday morning.
Nathanson said it is “a senseless loss”, but added: “We cannot however allow anger to take root.”
Leighton’s sister Tarryn Kihn reiterated the call for love, not anger. She said: “Justice will be served but South Africa especially does not need more hate and negativity. Please send out only love and God’s word. My brother is now with God and his soul is at peace.”
In a heartbreaking message, thanking the teams of volunteers and professionals who worked around the clock to find her brother, Tarryn also said:
We are devastated to tell you that my brother’s body has been found.
Our family would like to sincerely thank the SAP, Warrant office Andre Visser, Shaheem Suleman from Magma Security, Lee Bryant from Metropolitan Search and Rescue, Petra Nichloll and her whole amazing team of ordinary civilians who volunteer their time for the SA Community Crimewatch group. To all the hundreds of people who took part in searches, those who were helping to obtain and analyse camera footage and cell phone records. Without all of you, he would never have been found. We will be forever grateful and you will always be remembered.
Tarryn also thanked all their family and friends and “others unknown to us but who prayed and prayed for Leighton’s safe return and for my family through this ordeal.”
She said:
We cannot express to you all in words how deeply moved we have been by the overwhelming support from all over the world. It is all this support and prayer which has sustained us over the past days. There is so much light and love in our world and in the hearts of many people. Please continue to pray for our family as we start the long journey of grieving and healing.
Tarryn added a special note for Leighton: “To my brother: We will miss you everyday but you will always be with us. And one day we will all be reunited. Loving you always. Rest in peace.”
Leighton had last been seen driving his white Bantam Bakkie in Winston Park, Hillcrest. The bakkie was found a few days later abandoned in Market Street, Pietermartizburg, with license plates and license disc removed. His sister said at the time “we think he has been hijacked”.
Brad Nathanson Investigations extended sincere condolences to “Frank, Jill and Tarryn and the rest of Leighton’s family and friends” and asked that social media users please “be sensitive with your comments. Leighton was a son, a brother and an uncle.”
Nathanson thanked SAPS and all those involved in the search for Leighton. “So many people came together in this search,” he said.
It is requested that the family be granted privacy, and that comments and speculations are kept off social media as this case is still under investigation, said the Durban Metro Police Search and Rescue.
