JOHANNESBURG – At least three people were killed and around 200 injured on Tuesday morning when two trains collided in the South African capital Pretoria, an emergency services official said.
Charles Mabaso confirmed two of the fatalities with Reuters, and Netcare911 have since updated the death toll to three.
Netcare said more than 200 passengers have sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate,
One person has been airlifted in a critical condition to hospital.
Mabaso told Reuters: “We have got different emergency services on site.” They are currently working to reach those still trapped inside carriages.
The accident happened in Pretoria North on Tuesday morning during rush hour.
