African National Congress (ANC) Chief Whip in Knysna, Victor Molosi has been shot dead on Monday.
Molosi (50) was murdered near his home in Concordia at around 22h00, after reportedly returning from a school governing body meeting.
Molosi was the councillor of Ward 8, in the Knysna Municipality and was the ANC’s mayoral candidate.
Knysna Mayor Mark Willemse paid tribute to Molosi, a colleague who selflessly served Greater Knysna with pride and dignity, he said.
“Molosi was a very dedicated and passionate councillor for the ANC. A strong community leader and did his utmost to serve his community. It’s a huge loss to the council of Knysna. He was a very well-respected councillor,” said Willemse.
The death of Molosi was announced on Facebook by ANC provincial secretary Faiez Jacobs‚ who said it was “an enormously sad moment”.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie said on Tuesday no arrests had yet been made and the motive was not yet known.
There have been a spate of political shootings in South Africa over recent months, many killings in KwaZulu-Natal, as the country prepares for the national election next year.
