The DA demands an audit of all the National School Nutrition Programmes after thousands of kids were left hungry in KZN and EC schools.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, to institute an audit of all the National School Nutrition Programmes (NSNP) in all the provinces.

This is after learners in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the Eastern Cape (EC) have been forced to go hungry because of the department’s failure to ensure schools had food to provide meals, according to the statement by the DA.

THOUSANDS OF KIDS LEFT FOR HUNGER IN KZN AND EC SCHOOLS

The DA said 30 000 learners at 540 schools in KZN were left without meals and 4 982 schools in EC haven’t provided their learners with meals.

ILL ADMINISTRATION IS TO BLAME

This is all due to administrative failures to pay schools and service providers.

DA CALLS ON THE MINISTER OF BASIC EDUCATION TO CONDUCT AN AUDIT ON SCHOOLS MATTER

“It is becoming increasingly clear that some of the provinces are not capable of effectively managing this crucial programme, and we need to know which other programmes are in jeopardy as a matter of urgency if we are to prevent learners in other provinces from going hungry,” reads the statement.
