What to know about Nqobile Khumalo’s role in ‘Red Ink’

‘Scandal!’ star Nqobile Khumalo will star in Showmax’s upcoming series ‘Red Ink’ as a journalist, Lucy Khambule.

Actress Nqobile Khumalo, who is famously known for her role as Hlengiwe in Scandal! portrays a journalist in Red Ink.

NQOBILE KHUMALO AS LUCY KHAMBULE

Sunday World reports that Nqobile Khumalo’s role, Lucy Khambule in Red Link is approached by an imprisoned serial killer.

The imprisoned serial killer, Napoleon Dingiswayo, nicknamed the Butcher by the media is played by Bonko Khoza.

The upcoming eight-part thriller, Red Link is based on author Angela Makholwa-Moabelo’s best-selling debut novel. The author was raised in the East Rand township of Tembisa, worked as a journalist, and reported mostly on crime in the 1990s.

“I’m excited there is less trepidation on my side than you would expect. It’s been a great pleasure because I’ve been in the writer’s room. I’m an executive producer on the show, so I’m involved in the decision-making,” says Makholwa-Moabelo.

BACKGROUND OF ‘RED INK’

Phil Mphela reports that the show, Red Link is an adaptation of a novel is produced by BOMB Productions.

Bona reports that the upcoming novel is “set in Johannesburg, has a distinctly local flavour and brings the city to life through. The novel takes readers through this journey and “all its contrasts and contradictions,”

The upcoming series will also feature Yonda Thomas, Bongile Mantsai, Abdul Khoza, Kwenzo Ngcobo, Jo-anne Reyneke and many more.

Red Ink will be available for streaming on Showmax from 12 February with new episodes airing on Tuesdays.
