Roger Federer credits success to his South African mom
Legendary Swiss tennis player Roger Federer has credited his success to his South African mother, Lynette Federer.

HOMEGROWN
In a 2018 article by SA People Roger’s dad, Robert Federer shares how Roger inherited his athletic gifts from his mother, Lynette Federer.
Lynette who was born and raised in Johannesburg was a top performing athlete at school. She played a plethora of sports including hockey which she unfortunately had to quit due to leg injuries.
In his 20s Robert met Lynette during a holiday in South Africa. In 1973 the Robert and Lynette tied the knot and moved to Basel, Switzerland where they had two children, Roger and his older sister Diana.

Roger credits the family trips back home to South Africa for inspiring and motivating him to start his foundation; The Roger Federer Foundation at 22-years-old. At the time Roger started winning money on the tennis tour and wanted to make sure that he shared it with those who were less fortunate.
When asked about his motivation to give back the tennis player notes that the values instilled by his parents played a huge role in the impact he has made through his work and foundation.
“I think it comes from the values of my parents; and me, myself, when I was young being in South Africa… seeing that Switzerland is different to southern Africa, that you can have a big impact if you do it the right way”, he said.

THE ROGER FEDERER FOUNDATION
The Roger Federer Foundation supports educational projects in Southern Africa and Switzerland. According to its site the programmes facilitated focus on the improvement of the quality of early learning and basic education.
The foundation is active in six countries in Africa and assists in helping financially disadvantaged school goers in Switzerland.
Throughout his career Roger has consistently praised his for never being too pushy, and for always supporting him.
